Our Founder's Journey

Yiwen Zhang embarked on her carpet textile career in 1998.
Initially, she focused on manufacturing large-scale machine-woven tufted plain carpets. Through years of experience, she came to a profound realization: "Every carpet should be as unique as its owner - tailored to enhance each space with distinctive beauty and experience."
This insight led her to pioneer a new path in 2008: high-end hand-tufted custom carpets, establishing what would become DEQI's signature craftsmanship.
In 2008, Yiwen Zhang rented a small storefront in Hangzhou to start her carpet business.
No grandiose claims—just a simple belief: "Make good products, be good people."
In the early days, she spent every day at the factory, learning craft techniques from master artisans and experimenting with dye formulas. When others advised, "Carpets just need to be functional—why be so meticulous?" she would simply smile and reply, "If we're not satisfied with our own work, how can we expect our customers to be?"

Yiwen Zhang often says: "Every step of the process must be solid for the business to last." DEQI never prioritizes flashy marketing over product quality:

Steady, Practical Progress

  • 2011: A leading furniture brand came to evaluate a potential partnership. Though initially skeptical of this startup, they signed a contract immediately after seeing DEQI's craftsmanship.
  • 2016 G20 Summit: With nearly impossible standards set by the customer, the team worked overtime for three months, refining the production process dozens of times until the perfect carpets were delivered.
  • 2022: When an international client complained about color fading, the technical team traced the issue to strong acidic cleaners. Despite this being user error, they remade the carpets and provided detailed care instructions.
